Berries and Turquoise

Now that I'm on Christmas break, I finally made it to Michael's to figure out exactly what to create for our door. All season I've been wanting red berries, and something turquoise. This is what I came up with, and I LOVE it!
It was so cheap; I already had the frame, and all rest (berries, ribbon, ornament) were 50%-70% off at Michaels. I think the total cost was around $6. So worth it!

It was simple, too...I used the snipped-off wire stems of the berries to attach the berry branches to the frame (there's no glue on this beauty anywhere). Then I wrapped wired ribbon around it, hung the "Noel" from the frame, and attached a ribbon "hanger." Easy, easy easy!
I gave my not-so-traditional wreath away to a friend who loves it and will give it a good home. For reasons I won't bore you with, I was just DONE with it. I'm glad it has a good home, though. Thanks for taking it off my hands, Thai.

Not-quite-traditional Wreath

This is my not-quite-traditional Christmas wreath. I actually made it last Christmas for a holiday craft fair. It didn't sell. It also didn't sell at my second craft fair. Oh well, it at least it gets to be on my door now!
Each flower is hand-cut, and glued, and lovingly arranged. It took quite a while, but I think it was worth it.
The flowers are made from a vintage devotional book, which makes them extra special.

It's not really what I had in mind for our door this year, but it'll have to do for now. My vision for the door has thus far been a total craft fail (more on that later).

Oops, how did she get in a post about a wreath? Oh well. Isn't she adorable?

Fall Door Decor...and More.

I finally got around to doing something creative! I made a wreath, of sorts, for the door. I didn't want a traditional wreath...but I did stick to traditional colors. It reminds me a little of a cornucopia.

It's a small help for our very "blah" porch. We're renting, so we're not sure what to do to spruce it up without spending a lot of money....but it's a start.
Our little pot of mums helps too.
This is our front yard...it goes all the way to that far fence. It doesn't have much grass. We'd like it to look better, but again...we're renting. I do love the huge trees.
This is another view of the front of the house...and that, my friends, is where they had to replace the sidewalk and part of the yard when the main sewer line collapsed three days after we moved in (there are definitely some positives to renting).

Here's where the goofy contractors painted the bushes.
And where they didn't paint the windows.
But they were sure not to miss the inside of the storm door.
There are many more strange tales of the goofy contractors, but I'll save those for another day. For now, we are very happy in our first house, blah paint job and all.
Our house is definitely the ugly duckling on a street of swans...but it's our ugly duckling, and we love it.

Candle Sets of Prettiness

I also made these little candle sets for the craft fair.
They were actually my favorite items that I made.
Aren't they cute?

This blue set was my favorite.
I think this idea has a lot of wedding decor potential.

Not a single one of my candle sets sold...
but this tiny wreath that really wasn't my favorite anything did.
Weird.

Back Door Wreath

I had several mini wreaths (the kind you get at Michael's for .79) that I'd been meaning to put together in some kind of arrangement for our front door. Even though we've lived in our apartment for 10 months, I hadn't gotten around to putting anything up. So finally, this week I made this sweet and subtle little spring beauty. Taking these pictures was also a good incentive to WASH our front door. I had no idea it was so filthy! Have you looked at your front door lately? Oh, and yes, I hung the wreath with twine. It might be a little ghetto, but I think it looks cute...and we don't have a wreath hanger...and I didn't feel like paying for one. This is actually the back door, but it's the door that gets used the most often. As I was working, I got to thinking about other possible ways to spruce up this area. I think the next thing is to get a pretty mat. Any other ideas?

Flowery Wreath

I made this wreath several months ago to sell at a craft fair. It didn't sell, but that's okay because now it's hanging on the wall above our bed.

It took a while to make, but I think it was worth it!
