Valentine's Door Decor

Husband and I are not big celebrators of Valentine's Day. We are in love, but we just don't really care that much about V-Day. This year we are going to a Jim Brickman concert on the 10th, but it's really more of a happy coincidence that the dates are close. All that being said, I do like a good reason to decorate (even if it's just a little), and Valentine's Day gives me one. I made this simple Monogram with ribbon for our door. It's a little small, I think, so I may tweak it a little. For now, I think it's cute and I'm just glad I actually got it up before Valentine's. I wish it was a sunnier day, so that the picture could be a little brighter. Oh well.

A couple of weeks ago the puppy managed to grab my small purse off the table, run outside with it, empty the contents into muddy snow, and chew. my. glasses. in. half. To be honest, I wasn't that upset. I'd been wearing the same purple frames for eight years, which was about 7.5 years too long. This finally gave me the push to get my eyes checked and get new frames. These are much classier. So here's what I look like these days...

Addressing Our Address

As you can see from previous pictures, our house needs help. A lot of help. More help than we can give it, especially since we're renting. Our landlord has given as much help as he's going to (at least for now...I may demand a replacement sink for the one that makes a high-pitched banshee scream every time it runs). So it's up to us to make small, cost-effective changes to improve the place. Our front porch is in pretty bad shape, but we've already given it a little help.

A few plants, the door decor...but do you see the address sign?
You could barely read it 'cause the wood and numbers
had faded to about the same color...see?
So I went out bought wooden numbers,
while Husband scrounged up some spray paint.
After our team effort, the sign came out like this...

Much better, I think.
And you can much more easily see it from the street. We're trying to improve.
Meanwhile I try to ignore the hideous color of the trim,
that awful pipe between the windows,
the enormous slant of the porch,
and all the general weirdness of the place...
because we live in a house,
in a beautiful neighborhood,
with our dog (who loves her backyard),
and Husband and I can both walk to work.

Cute doesn't always mean success

So today's craft fair was far from a smashing success. Sold a few things, but may or may not have broken even (I haven't gotten up the courage to add up the numbers yet). Still, I thought I'd share a couple more things that I made for it...none of these things sold.

Oh well.

Dressed up Dresser

About a year ago, at the very beginning of my crafting endeavors, I bought this hideous mini dresser at Goodwill. It was only a couple of bucks...and really, I wasn't going to ruin it any further...
Well, long story short, I finally finished it today. The paint is a sample bottle of Martha Stewert's Cornbread, which I bought at Home Depot. The little sample jars are perfect for small projects like this, and don't cost much. It isn't perfect, but I love how it turned out.Cute, no?

Since our pansies are in the background, I thought I'd show you an update. When we first bought them, they looked like this...
Today they look like this...

Thankful.

I fly home from Nashville in a few hours, but I was eager to share this...
This was the birthday gift I made for my sister-in-law. This was my first time doing anything quite like this. I was a little nervous about it...in fact, I painted over several ideas that I didn't like until I came up with this one. Turned out cute, I think.Linked up:
